So, I recently picked up a 2016 Soul EV and looking at the mobile charger, I think I could just open it up and swap the 5-15P 120v pigtail for a 240v 14-50P pigtail (already have that socket in my garage)

Is this crazy? Everything about this looks like it was meant of 240v and they removed that plug and replaced it with the 120v version before shipping it to the States. I know Korea runs on house hold 240. I'm REALLY tempted to try this.

Has anyone else done/tried this?

You will have to check the internal circuit to ensure that the low voltage electronics in there are OK with 240V and 120V. I suppose it is possible that they built it with a universal power supply but more likely that they'd have a couple of component options for the different voltages.

The other thing is that it will still only charge at 12A and not at the 30A that the car is capable of taking. I don't know what gauge the cable going to the car is, it may not be capable of taking more current.

It's a multitension supply (for the 12v PILOT signal).
100 to 277v AC. :)

So that one is replacing the working parts with a PIC microcontroller. It only generates the pilot signal, it doesn't monitor the current flow so it is very dangerous.

Thanks for the responses. I might just eat the cost and send the thing off to http://evseupgrade.com/ I've used them before and it turned out well.
