Battery Concerns on a Used Soul EV

Forgive my scepticism, but maybe they just turned the headlamps on.

Consistent drops in SOC every time vehicle is turned off and on.

Its probably due to the battery cooling down, giving rise to small changes in the cell chemistry and monitoring performance. Nothing serious. Don't worry about slightly exceeding 80% - it's an arbitrary value, so 83% will not make much difference to longevity. Or you could aim to stop at 77%...

    My 2018 Kia Soul EV+

I thought all 2018s were 30 kWh. Does the charging interface offer you the option to charge to 80%? If not, that would indicate a 30kWh pack.

Have you replaced your EV motor/transmission/housing with a used one?

This has been addressed by another post, but I can't remember which forum. There was no mention of programming.

    Energy used by heating system

For the 2016 and 2017 model, I understand SoulSpy computes an SOH value from "best and worst cells" or something on those lines. I don't think the method is the same as the one KIA uses to give the official value they use to determine whether the battery is replaced under warranty.

    Range finally back up

It gives SOH1 and SOH2. Some think SOH1 is the traction battery, and SOH2 the 12V battery. Mine shows, respectively, 110% (which would be nice, but is unlikely after 7 years service) and 60%, which is quite believable for a 4.5 year old lead/acid battery.

one battery showing red and lower than the rest

Try recharging the battery to 100% and having another look. The BMS balances the cells at the end of a 100% charge by feeding current to individual cells, and, if there is nothing wrong with the cell in question, the imbalance will be reduced or not reappear. I would have a look at the SOH...

Sudden loss of range while sitting in garage

It is a small unit which plugs into the OBD socket of the car (located inside the interior fuse panel). It communicates with (for example) an Android mobile phone, normally by Bluetooth. See this link for an example.

Sudden loss of range while sitting in garage

If you want to get some useful data, use SoulEV Spy or Car Scanner ELM OBD2, with the appropriate recommended OBD dongle, to monitor the cell voltages day by day.

    Range finally back up

No-one knows what algorithm the GoM uses. It could be that it re-assessed on the basis of how your wife drove that 3 mile trip.

Soul EV Spy Questions and Answers

If your Konnwei works, that's fine. Mine does, but I've had it for 4 years or more. It's the newer ones which maybe do not. It is common for the SOH to be unavailable for a while after the BMS was updated. Drive say 50 miles and then try.

Got new E4000 battery and BMS for Soul 2015 under warranty

Maybe also living in Korea helps?
