Not always! I found this out the hard way. Warranty starts on date of purchase. My 2016 warranty started in sept of 2015. So depending on when the vehicle was purchased, OP could be out of warranty already.
I hate how different countries have longer/shorter warranties as well. Don't really...
I think keeping the battery between 80% and 20% is the best option for keeping the battery in good shape.
I am glad you had a good experience, I do read a lot of horror stories, and mine has not been so positive but I am out of warranty so I am kinda stuck.
The service dept has to do the battery test the correct way or it will just reset the BMS and it will read 100% as @IanL says. Do you have warranty left?
Yeah it really is a fun car. I am super bummed I have to get rid of it. The parts service that I thought would have the remanufactured packs for sale actually doesn't have them, and no ETA for any orders.
Looks like my hopes have been dashed again. Looking right now at a CPO 2021 Kona EV...
Am I crazy for trying to get this car running again? I have been trying to sell it, but when I think I want to, I realize I am attached to this stupid little car.
I am trying again to purchase a remanufactured pack and it looks like I may be able to for like $4000 CDN. But I am worried it may...
That sucks! At least you still have some warranty left, maybe they can get it taken care of before it ends. I am looking at other vehicles now, there are some good deals on Kona's from that year range as well. I am just really hesitant after this whole experience and don't want to have to...
That's a cool video. Crazy the size of the battery relative to it's capacity. He said it's twice as heavy as the EV6 battery which gets ~350km range!
Seems I have learned my lesson the hard way with this car. I am preparing to sell it right now and hoping to come close to breaking even.
I am going to try to sell my car, as much as it pains me to do so! I am hoping to recover most of the money I spent on it, but I am doubtful. My wife has been soured on BEV's now and is hesitant to buy another after this whole experience. I don't personally want to go back to an ICE car...
Yeah I thought about salvaging the battery for the house, but tbh, that sounds like a lot of work. I really just want my car to be useable. I actually like this car and would be happy if I could just get the battery range up to like 180km that other people have reported with the replacement...
Well, it turns out I am not getting the battery! The dealer quoted me on the price for the remanufactured battery, I was willing to pay it. Waited weeks, then was told that you can't actually get that part unless it is through a warranty claim/recall. They then told me if I wanted a battery...
Just chiming in here! I was told I needed a new battery, I am out of warranty so worked out the finances and figured it would still be a good idea to purchase the battery out of pocket.
This was 2 weeks ago, I was told it would be a couple of weeks to get the parts in. Just was told yesterday...
I should be getting the replacement in a couple of weeks, I will just have to figure out how to make it last for as long as possible. Is charging only to 80% still the best way to go? I have the trickle charger at home but access to level 2 at work.
Thanks @Locuturus and @uspurs ,
I am getting more a bit more hopeful about this situation. Still sucks to pay out of pocket but at least I will be able to use my car!
