You could routinely charge the 12V battery with a suitable charger say overnight once or twice a week. Using a modern chip-controlled charger, it is not necessary to disconnect the battery. Some chargers (e.g. CTEK) come with a lead you can permanently connect to the battery posts and route to...
Try closing with the left side first, and then press in the right. That's how I do mine.
The latching mechanism may not be fully shutting and may need lubrication. Also, the "emergency" release may not be completely slack, so lubricate and exercise that.
My formula for lubrication is some...
From my reading around, I have not found any mention of such changes from 2015 to 2017. The 2018 MY introduced the 100 cell-pair battery - the earlier one was 96 cell-pairs.
My practice is to do timer charges from 20 or 30% to 80%, but as mine is a 2018 MY, I have to estimate the charging time. I think it's worth the effort to extend the battery life.
Just to bring my comments up to date, I managed to get my car to show the warning at the dealers, and they applied the KIA diagnostic tablet to the OBD port. It showed Fault No B185A, which is 3-way valve open (presumably when it should be shut). We could also see the fault by using the the...
The SOH relates the current capacity in kWh to the nominal capacity (30 kWh in this case). So 102% is (30x102/100) = 30.6 kWh. 110% is 33 kWh.
You can't actually read the SOH above 100% using SoulSpy, as the data is not available at the OBD connector - it just states 100%. KIA may be able to...
I have a 2018 30 kWh with about 72,000 km, and my battery is about 102%, by my method of calculation, and seems to be holding that value. Our summers are not usually as hot as 40 degC, apart from the odd fluke day. I hope that helps.
I believe the charging routine you did is to calibrate the SOH in the BMS, but does not affect the GOM directly. My understanding is that the dealer has to reset the BMS (i.e. you can't do it) - that will make the BMS use default values, which will cause the GOM to show a respectable range...
Thanks. I see that Self Diagnosis Code 108 is shown as DTC Code B185A. I can't find the DTC Code list in the Service Manual - can you point me to the right direction please?
There have been a few posts about this warning arising intermittently, but never getting an OBD fault code from Spy or Torque. I have had it for 3 years, always in cold weather, never over the summer, and never when it was possible to get it to the dealer before it vanished - until today. I...
Yes, and the presence of jacking sockets adjacent to the wheels, even thought there's no spare and no jack supplied. I've been grateful for them, twice, having needed my spacesaver spare when I had a tyre shredded from hitting a kerbstone..
Thanks, I would not have guessed that. Great piece of design, and that is one of many on this car. Do you suppose KIA had EV in mind when they originally designed the Soul?
Well, that is a little surprising. Could you please use SoulEV Spy or Torque to see how many cell pairs the BMS is listing. If it is only 96, that would suggest that the BMS will not balance the extra 4 , which might cause problems eventually.
As the 30kWh battery has four more cell pairs, the BMS will require four more connections to it, and appropriate software. So, a different BMS, different BMS to battery harness, and no-one has posted whether the battery enclosures are the same size and use the same securing arrangements. There...
Yes, it looks ok. The problem is that the dealer's diagnostics is relying on the BMS being serviceable. If it is defective, it may not be fully charging the battery. Perhaps you could ask if they could arrange a BMS swap to localise the issue?
Ax regards the dealers checking the amount of...
Only thing I can think of is chacking with SoulEV Spy. That should show you whether any cells are bad, and give another reading of SOH. Even if you get that, KIA will not accept it as grounds for a replacement, but it could allow you to start a dialog.
