Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

They really are a most unpleasant company to deal with; they aren't familiar with 'do the right thing', for sure. They are even being difficult about getting a transcript of the original case I opened (and they closed unilaterally).

Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

As I have written previously, we were without our '17 for 14 weeks, across 7-8 visits to dealerships (we did eventually get a reman E400 pack and that's doing well, even after the SC267 recall, touch wood). I submitted to Kia a summary of the additional expenses incurred - we never succeeded in...

Battery Recall for cars with E400 high-voltage battery.

    Can you share the circumstances?

Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

I am still 'discussing' what they're calling a 'goodwill' payment for us being without the car for 14 weeks last year - there is zero goodwill, from what I see. It took them 4 weeks to review what I submitted - 3 weeks longer than they promised. Regarding the buyback issue - I don't see the...

Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

Nothing wrong with a bit of conjecture😁 I am leaning towards 1 - we have so far been fortunate not to see any problems since we had SC267 almost 8 weeks ago on a reman pack installed last summer. Clearly, a certain % have seen problems and I also suspect that Kia are loathe to replace more...

Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

Did the latest problem show up after the SC267 / BMS recall? If so, how long after / many miles?

Soul EV? Pros & Cons; good choice for first EV owner?

2017 was the last year for the E375 battery cells, 2018-9 used the E400 cells - the latter are I believe those subject to the recall; those E400 cells have also been used in some earlier cars when their batteries have been replaced, thus making those cars subject to the recall. The Kia battery...

    2016 Soul EV+ Battery Replacement - Remanufactured?

Just as a data point; we started with 107 miles of range yesterday, drove 90.2 miles @ 4.5 M/kWh and have 28% battery (GOM shows 30 miles) remaining. We're in a rural, hilly, area with speed limits of max 55mph.

Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

I don't think we really know enough about why the harness was replaced and the associated BMS update - perhaps it was intended for these two together to be more sensitive to battery condition and, hopefully, detect any danger of an incident. Maybe the software released was over-sensitive or too...

    2016 Soul EV+ Battery Replacement - Remanufactured?

I have just edited my post, as I realised I omitted that we got a reman pack.

    2016 Soul EV+ Battery Replacement - Remanufactured?

Not sure what year and mileage you have, or what the warranty in Canada is (here in the US, 10/100) - we had the battery on our '17 replaced (with a reman pack) last summer under that warranty and the BMS recall about 6 weeks ago. Coming out of winter here in the NE and the GOM is showing 108 on...

Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

Personally, I think the market value of the gen 1s hasn't been unaffected by these battery problems; that may possibly be the best avenue for a class action, but I would think it'd require quite a bit of research to determine if my suspicions are warranted / actionable. When I looked into...

Car stuck at dealer for 3 months awaiting warranty battery replacement (2017 Soul EV)

Fwiw - and I'm not in the lawyering business - the challenge may be determining how many people have been hung up waiting for a battery; if it's, for example, a couple of dozen, is it likely to be financially worthwhile for a law firm to pursue a class action? From what I've read - here and...

    Tires?

We went with 205/60R-16 CONTINENTAL PURECONTACT LS SL on our '17 a couple of years ago; no noticeable range impact, though we were going through battery issues back then anyway. Better than the OEM Nexens in the wet, we think. We don't use them for winter driving (we're in the NE, so have winter...

2016 Soul EV replacement battery - range unchanged and voltage question.

I would be very interested to see the energy usage you're seeing - miles per kwh; in our '17 with a reman battery fitted last summer, I pretty much only rely on the SOC and energy read-outs. In the recent cold weather here in the NE, we saw as low as 74 on the GOM on a full charge, but SOC % and...

Battery Recall for cars with E400 high-voltage battery.

Is there any way of identifying which software update / version this was? I had the SC267 recall last Friday, so maybe there's a chance I have the newer, 'good', version 🤞🏼

Kia dealer has my SoulEV for 3+ months

I appreciate that; I wrote 'that Kia should run the battery to empty and then measure what it takes to charge to 100%' (bold added) - so whether the dealership do it, or not, it has no value until Kia approve the method.

Kia dealer has my SoulEV for 3+ months

From our experience, and fwiw, the SOH isn't the most reliable metric for assessing battery health / replacement. My view is that Kia should run the battery to empty and then measure what it takes to charge to 100%. But good luck convincing a dealer to do that.
