Comprehensive online Kia Soul EV manual

Thought this might come in handy for some people: https://www.ksoulev.com/kia_soul_ev_ps_ev_2015_2020_service_manual-2239.html It's an online service repair manual for 2015-2020 Kia Soul EVs. I stumbled upon it by accident. Hope someone finds it useful.

Has anyone replaced their 12V battery with lithium?

Thanks! I'll check into it and see if there are any others that can give the SOC of lithium batteries. As for the other parameters being measured, this reminds me of something that always annoyed me about car manufacturers: Dummy warning lights that don't even come on until you ALREADY have a...

Has anyone replaced their 12V battery with lithium?

Lithium batteries also do much better at holding a charge when not being used for extended periods of time. Lead acid is not good at this. But you're right that it's good to test them regularly. Lithium holds its charge while being used really well until the very end and then it just dies...

Has anyone replaced their 12V battery with lithium?

Well, I think the reason Kia used that 45AH battery is because it was readily available and so they didn't have to have a specially made one (which would increase cost slightly). Just my guess. But you're right: A typical lead-acid battery for an ICE vehicle gets used up so quickly because of...

Has anyone replaced their 12V battery with lithium?

No issues whatsoever. I tested them individually about a month ago and they were still showing excellent voltage (13.something IIRC). I will say that if you are planning on doing this with a parallel setup, do take the time to make sure that the batteries are voltage-matched before connecting...

Does charging only to 80% really make a difference?

If I remember correctly it was in Estonia, and I think I remember seeing snow in the background when the guy was showing the car so the cold climate bit is probably true. I still was amazed that it had been quick charged almost 7,000 times and still was going along although it had lost about 30%...

    How to remove EV sticker

Hello everyone. I bought my Kia Soul EV+ used from California and had it shipped to my state (Florida). Great car and I love it. But! In California electric vehicles often (usually) have a sticker on them that allows them to drive in the "eco-friendly" lanes. We don't have those in Florida so I...

Does charging only to 80% really make a difference?

Yep, that's what I've heard too (about staying between 40% - 60%). I rarely charge it to 100% and if I do it's because I'm going on a slightly longer journey and I drive the vehicle within a short time after charging has finished. On that note, I saw a YouTube video last week where a guy was...

Does charging only to 80% really make a difference?

That makes sense. Coincidentally, I received in the mail today an item I ordered a few weeks ago: An OBD-II dongle that works with the "Soul Spy" app I installed on my phone (via bluetooth) which should give a lot of highly detailed information about the state of the battery. It's a Konnwei...

Does charging only to 80% really make a difference?

Thanks. In that case though, does "full charging" mean to charge a battery to its actual full capacity or to what the management system is reporting as full (which might only be 90-something percent not counting the upper buffer)? I'll check out the article.

Does charging only to 80% really make a difference?

That is, as far as battery longevity goes, does only charging to 80% make a big difference? I know that charging to 100% is not actually charging to 100% because of the upper buffer, but am I wasting usable range by not just charging to 100%? Anybody know what Kia says about this? I didn't see...

Better mileage using "B-mode" all the time, or only some of the time?

I always keep mine in B-mode EXCEPT when driving on the highway because lifting off the accelerator will rob you of too much momentum which requires additional energy to regain. Of course, even in normal non-B mode it regens a bit but less is better in this case. If I could turn it completely...

DIY LED headlights - did not work out.

I wonder if switching to LEDs would even be worth the effort. Do they really use THAT much less power than the stock ones? If it's only going to increase my range by a few percent then I would say it's not really worth it, especially if these other claims are true (not good in the rain, etc).

I sent you a PM. Hopefully it will be useful to you.

    seat covers? seat cleaning?

Hmm... Mine is attributed to "Pasha" and is 1362 pages long. I did see more than one version of the service manual for my vehicle so I guess I lucked out in the one I chose. Hopefully you can get your money back or something.

    Kia Soul EV maintenance schedule

I got the "EV service" icon today as well. First time seeing that. After reading some replies here I did a volt test on the 12v accessory battery which was fine and checked the coolant level. I noticed it was at the "Min" level instead of the "Max" line, so I put more in there. Dry as a bone in...

    seat covers? seat cleaning?

An update to my post above is that the backseat is easily removed so that you can put on a seat cover that has a strap that goes under the seat. You don't even have to remove it completely but just pull up on the front part of the bottom section until it pops up and then run your strap and then...

Has anyone replaced their 12V battery with lithium?

Well, I live in Florida so the parallel 20AH setup works well for me (it rarely drops below 30F). I'm the one who did the lithium setup above. I can't imagine that 75AH would ever be needed unless they're talking about using a series of these batteries to power the vehicle itself, rather than...

    Make your own trunk shelf?

Yeah, I'm guilty. It kind of became a thread about general ways to improve your Kia Soul. Should have made a separate thread, true.

    Make your own trunk shelf?

One other thing I forgot to mention: The battery terminals on most of these lithium ion batteries are M5 or M6, so you'll need to get two adapters. The one I linked seems to be an M5 type. Unfortunately, the M5 size is far less common than the M6 size so it might be a trick to find. I would...
