Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) firmware : (November 2023 - another recall)

It's possible to get everything setup so the car can be towed when it is off, but it isn't easy. It's a two part process. As part of the recall, they should have given you a little manual supplement and that has the instructions on how to turn the car off without the EPB applying itself - you...

Soul 2015 - Check EV system (error) / battery cooling failure?

I think the fault code is pointing to your problem. The motor is a 3 phase AC motor, so the motor controller needs to know the exact position of the shaft at all times to know what phase to apply to the coils to make the shaft turn at the right speed. It has 4 signals coming from the position...

Soul 2015 - Check EV system (error) / battery cooling failure?

If all those things are the same temperature then that suggests that the cooling system is working properly with the EWP circulating the coolant through them, otherwise some would be hotter than others. If you use something like the "Torque" app, are there any codes registered? Is there...

Soul 2015 - Check EV system (error) / battery cooling failure?

I strongly recommend using something like Soul Spy on an Android phone with a Bluetooth OBD-II dongle to look at what the battery is doing in terms of temperatures and whether it thinks the fan should be on.

    Warranty transfer

This is going to vary depending on country. You may be able to go to your country's Kia website and find the warranty details. Here's the one for Canada https://www.kia.ca/content/dam/marketing/content/owners/kia-ownership/warranty/2017_Kia_Warranty_Manual_en.pdf and page 11 says it is...

Fault when using stock level 1 charger

Also check the wall socket that the cable is plugged in to. The car draws a lot of power for a long time, so anything that isn't perfect in that path can cause it to trip out.

    Range meter vs actual miles

It's usually a little conservative, but not that much. The big thing is it bases the range estimate on how it was driven before. If it was driven more aggressively, or driven in colder temperatures, or something similar that used more power for the range then that can throw it off...

    2016 needs Onboard Charger

I think the issue with a DIY swap is the bleeding of the coolant system afterwards. I don't think anyone knows the codes to trigger the water pump, and without proper bleeding then the air bubbles could cause electronics both in the OBC and the power control to overheat and burn out.

    AC sometimes does not work

You are low on refrigerant. The question is where has it gone? I've had both the expansion valve and the condenser replaced on my 2016 over the past few years. Heads up that if you take it to somewhere other than the dealer, the AC compressor is high voltage and uses a different oil that can...

Roof top carrier vs trailer hitch cargo rack? Effect on mileage

Here's a thread about adding a trailer hitch to the Soul EV https://www.mykiasoulev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=12542

Alternative tires to NEXEN N Blue EV

I recently swapped to Nokian One tyres https://www.nokiantires.com/all-season-tires/nokian-tyres-one/ at the recommendation of my local tyre shop. It's only been a few weeks and I haven't driven much, but overall I'm very happy with them, nice and quiet and a smooth ride over rough pavement...

    Air Bag Recall

I found the actual procedure on the NHTSA website https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2022/RCRIT-22V031-2809.pdf If there is hardware damage then they replace the control unit. If not you get a software update to make sure that even if damage occurs then the airbags will go off in a crash.

    Recommended jump starter?

I don't have any recommendations, but you don't need a powerful one. In an ICE car a jump start has to be able to turn over the engine, which requires lots of power. With an EV a jump start only needs to turn on the main relay. Once the main relay is on them the DCDC converter will provide the...

    Three phase charging

The OBC only takes a single phase at up to 240V. Note that this can be centre tapped, in North America it is 120-0-120 to give 240V. It will charge at up to 7kW if fed with 32A from the EVSE.

    12V battery keeps going dead

I think you have a bad 12V battery, and taking a 12V car battery down to 3V will kill it if it wasn't dead before. I'm surprised it's passing a load test, although I believe some modern testers don't actually put the battery under load and instead a doing some form of digital analysis. IanL is...

Any notion of what's coming for 2022?

AWD has more driveshafts to rotate and more universal joints on those driveshafts, that gives a small inefficiency. There are 2 parts to handling in the snow and other slippery conditions. Firstly, can you get traction - this is directly related to where the weight is in the vehicle. A heavy...

    UVO Modem down

Here in Canada we never had UVO. Entertainment including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay works. Charge timers and preheat times both work.

12 volt dead suspect climate control...

Is the car is being left plugged in all the time when not in use? That can cause the 12V to drain because the computers keep waking up to check if it should be charging / preheating, and because it doesn't need that then it never turns on the power which would recharge the 12V.

12 volt dead suspect climate control...

I suspect you just had a 12V that died by itself. The problem with EVs is that you get no warning if they are going bad. I think your dealer is advising you based on how ICE cars work where the 12V battery gets heavy use starting and doesn't get much chance to charge when driving a short...
