Getting only 73 miles in the winter

P.S. we still love our Soul and choose it over our other vehicles whenever we can...

Getting only 73 miles in the winter

Well spring has really arrived and with temperatures near 20C today we got 150km on a charge... 17.4kw on the eco meter thingamabob. This with wide tires on 18” rims. It seems like the Kia would be best suited for temperate climates. As soon as it gets below 10C things deteriorate.

Getting only 73 miles in the winter

The warmer weather has hit (15C) and we are increasing our range to 130+ km’s. I expect we will be back to 142km’s by the time we hit summer. We have never seen the 156km that was on the gauge when we first picked up the car new. So I would say that degradation is not evident after 1.75yrs of...

Getting only 73 miles in the winter

We are seeing the same thing. 73 miles is about 117km. We typically see 135-142 per charge in the summer months. Last summer our range recovered once into warmer weather. This year I have different rims and wider tires. I had hoped the range penalty was not going to be too severe, but so...

    Range from 100% Charge Dropping

People should do more research before they buy a car. The Kia EV is a perfect car for around town. I'm tired of hearing people complain that they can no longer complete their 70mile commute.... people!! You bought the wrong car! If a highway commute makes up the majority of your driving stick...

Dashboard speedometer and range meter (both colour screens) won't dim

All sorted. Part of it was operator error

    Battery Performance Dropping consistently

Just in case people start to panic reading the above. There are a couple of things you should know. 1). The OP has 67,000 miles (107,000kms) on a car that is just over a year old. 2). They seem to charge extensively on a rapid charger (level 3) Obviously lots of highway driving being done...

Dashboard speedometer and range meter (both colour screens) won't dim

So our horn quit working. We went in to get that looked at and in the mean time they did a "free software update". I hate software updates. You see if everything already works fine, why do an update? If it ain't broke... So now our dashboard speedo and "fuel" gauge will no longer respond...

    Charging Fault error.

We drive the car the same distance most days and temperature definitely plays a role but our range did not recover as it should with warmer weather. Basically, once the new OBC was installed we went from 142km to 152km range. Not a lot, but better than a kick in the nuts. My wife just got an...

    Charging Fault error.

Well, chalk another Soul up for a replacement OBC. No cost to me, but an inconvenience. 2016 with 23,000km's on it. Has not been through a summer yet. I use a level 2 Eaton charger at home primarily. Never tried the chadmo thingy as there are none nearby. Actually, there are no chargers...

Am I crazy for wanting to buy instead of lease?

Further to the discussion. We can see from past and present experience with the Prius, that third party companies see the need and step up to provide solutions. You can get bad cells diagnosed and individually replaced now. example, not an endorsement...

Am I crazy for wanting to buy instead of lease?

I would like to point out that I bought a Kia Soul EV for the environmental benefits. If I were to buy a car and move on to a newer car in three short years that requires yet another car to be manufactured to meet my needs. This has a vast impact on energy and resources. If I buy a car that...

Am I crazy for wanting to buy instead of lease?

I bought my Soul. First off, I'm a crazy risk taker. That being said, from what I can tell an EV will have a much longer low maintenance lifespan than a gasser. The same old rules apply in the sense that if you are going to keep a car for any length of time purchasing will always make more...

Tires on my new Kia suck

I need to replace my tires as they are not safe. I like to drive a bit aggressively, nothing insane, but what I find is that with the added weight of the car there is substantial understeer. Has anyone changed their summer tires for other Kia rims and what tire combinations have you gone with?
