Am I crazy for wanting to buy instead of lease?

After my dad and I both leased our EVs my brother started to feel the same way--he just found a great deal on a used Leaf. We now have three EVs in the family!

Am I crazy for wanting to buy instead of lease?

That's $299/mo after $1999 down... plus taxes and fees. For example, here in Georgia taxes on a $35,000 car are over $2,600; add in the misc fees and that figure moves past $3000. So this lease is actually more like $299/mo after $5,000 down. And if you want to pay $0 down that $5,000 gets...

Am I crazy for wanting to buy instead of lease?

No need to worry, the Federal credit is applied to both EV sales and leases.

Am I crazy for wanting to buy instead of lease?

I had never leased a vehicle before my Soul, so like you, my initial instinct was to buy. In addition to the pretty compelling financial argument posted above, it's also worth considering that mass market EVs are still a pretty new technology and each new generation of vehicles seems to offer...

is this a good lease deal?

Oh WOW. The lease rates advertised on BMW USA for my area are *nothing* like that: 2015 BMW i3 Mega World $439/mo for 36 months 10,000 miles/year $7,500 down payment 3.25% APR plus taxes, title, registration, license, and doc fees (another $3500-$4000)

Road Trip: Another 1600 miles with 1st emergency tow!

I live in Atlanta and have family in NC, MD, NJ and NY so I'm used to making road trips like yours--but always using gasoline! Congrats for solidly demonstrating what can be done with these cars.

    kWh meter for charging

An average of 90% efficiency during the charge isn't bad. Thanks for the update!

Top Questions You Get Asked as an EV Owner by ICE Owners

"Is it partial electric or full electric?" - I get asked that one every time, even by owners of other EVs.

    kWh meter for charging

Great idea. When charging at 120v, how did the 'actual' power consumed compare with the 'available' power added to your Soul EV's battery pack?

    Rolling in park? Anyone else?

I have never been dazzled by anyone's brake lights. On the other hand, I have been rear-ended several times by drivers who didn't realize I was stopped. These quotes pretty much speak for themselves.

    Rolling in park? Anyone else?

In North America, the parking brake for many cars is activated by a ratcheting pedal in the driver's footwell. It is not intended for hill-holding while driving. Electronic parking brakes with a 'hill hold' feature are usefull, but are not yet offered in many vehicles here.

That's some brand loyalty! What do you think of the Cadenza?

Soul EV with no home charger = bad idea?

If you're putting only a handful of miles on your car and you have nearby paid charging options, it sounds like you have an ideal use case for a-la-carte charging. High electric rates in SoCal make this a more compelling solution then in my area, where overnight EV plans are less than 2 cents...

Car is throwing breaker first for outlet, then main on 110v

Ditto that - this is not an issue with the car, but with the circuit.

    B mode - brake lights?

Yes, as you lift off the throttle to decelerate in B Mode, the brake lights come on at the very top of the pedal travel--that last half cm/quarter inch of movement before your foot lifts completely off the throttle pedal activates the brake lights.

    Winter Tires and Rims

That's pretty standard dealer speak whenever you ask about adding aftermarket parts to your car. Feel free to translate that as 'we want you to spend your money only with us.' For the OP, another thing you need to check when using wheels from another vehicle is centerbore (the hole in the back...

Denied service request at Kia dealership

I knew that only select dealerships were trained and certified to work on Soul EVs, but I've never thought to inquire whether non-certified dealers would turn us away. Let me guess - are there zero EV certified dealers in South Florida?
