Have been running the latest Q3 2018 update for about a month now - ST.PSEV.KR.E533.180413
Not a lot new.

Will make some comparisons with the latest maps on the Soul EV, I oniq Electric, and K ona EV.

First the Soul EV

1/ As I mentioned before there is a filter labelled 'Connector Settings' on the main list of charging stations.
This makes no sense on the Soul EV, because all of our cars use Chademo.
But I now know that this same screen was added first to the I oniq Electric.
That car initially has Chademo but switched to CCS.
We share the same Navi as the I oniq, hence we get the same filter settings.

The more useful filter is to filter the charging stations by the operating company. The option for this is hidden away deep in a sub-menu.
First go to the navigation menu and open points of interest, then open traffic / automobile and you will see charging stations option.

But the latest 2018 I oniq Electric has new Navi Software that is not shared with the older cars.
Only CCS1 is used on the 2018+ Model Years, so no need to show the Chademo filters.
(It has a new DMB chip for improved TV resolution)
Hence the latest version does not show the 'Connector Settings' filter on the main list of charging stations.
Instead the 'Operating Company' filter is shown. A much better UI decision.

The K ona EV shares the same UI as the 2018 I oniq Electric.
It is CCS1, so no need to show the Chademo filters. I assume the N iro EV will also have this UI.

The Ioniq EVs are updated as: (For some reason there is no European version. US gets an Amp.)

Other Hybid EVs to get updated are the Hyundai LFHEV and LFPHEV (Ioniq?)
Kia TFHEV, Kia JFHEV and Kia JFPHEV (Optima), Kia DEHEV and Kia DEPHEV (Niro?)

So no sign yet of a new Kia EV. (The Ray EV code TAMEV does not have the navigation display)

Nothing difficult. Put the SD card from the car into your computer. It is a regular FAT32 filesystem.
Open the update folder. Look at the file update.ini.

The more interesting stuff is inside the update/system folder.
In our cars there is an encrypted zip file containing the binary file to update.
In the more recent N iro EV Kia has changed this to use their own proprietary encrypted file.

Also note you cannot modify any of the update files to install changed files, because there are encrypted hashes of each file.

And some detail about the processor used on these systems -
AVN4 is a NXP SOC i.MX53xA ARM Cortex A8 running at 800MHz ( this is the one seen in my car.)
AVN5 is a NXP SOC i.MX 6Dual ARM Cortex A9 running at 1000MHz ( am guessing here - based on graphic for O ptima below.)
If someone has AVN5 and can tell me the chipset - please comment here.

I had a look at the update files for the MY2020.
The underlying file system is quite different, yet the actual navigation updates are identical.
It seems to have changed from an Android system to a Linux system.
The modem is Qualcomm chip MDM9607.
The internal code for the new car is SK3EV. My car was PSEV.

Some detail about the latest navigation screens.
Firstly for my car a 2015 using the latest software - ST.PSEV.KR.E537.190320

The EV menu now has a filter to suggest the best c harger to go to.
The algorithm seems to be choosing the ones that have multiple stalls, and are also close.
The other option on this button was to sort by distance.
The connector settings button has moved to the filter screen.


The map screen has weather info when zoomed out.


The map now uses a two pin plug icon to show c harging spots. ( Not the c harger icon that looked like a petrol pump)

Here's some screens from the 10.25 inch screen on the new 2020 Soul EV.
This screen has much better resolution and sensitivity than our current 8 inch version. ( Sorry about the poor quality of my camera!)
The navigation software is nearly identical to my 2015 Soul EV.
Note that this car has software from 30th January 2019. It is a few months older than the recently installed version on my car.



This version doesn't have the suggest feature yet.
Also the car still thinks it is in the Gwangju factory where it was made.

The new I oniq Electric has the same 10.25 inch screen as on the new 2020 Soul EV.
It also has the identical navigation software as the new 2020 Soul EV.



This car knows it is at the Jeju Convention Center.

The just released MY2020 of the N iro Hybrid and N iro Plugin Hybrid has the same software and map as the new e-Soul.
This must be the new 10 1/4 inch screen. The new N iro EV with the bigger screen is not out yet.
I am using the Soul EV(UVO2.0, SDCard) on my 2015 Soul EV.

I installed the 2019 Q3 update. Doesn't seem to offer anything new.

Of note recently is the almost weekly messaging we get onto the navigation.

For example after clicking details on a mini message that tells you a new message has arrived you see this.



If you touch one of the arrows at the end of each summary you get the full message.


This message is telling us that Bluetooth won't work with the latest iOS13.
Another tells that the September update is ready. (You have to download that on a computer.)
And the third says that some systems are losing the clock due to a GPS glitch. (I have never lost the clock.)

Given that I don't pay for UVO, my cars do not have a cellular connection, so I wondered how they are sending this info.
They use TPEG a one way data transfer piggy backing on the DMB system.
This is also how we get the weather and traffic congestion.

Just installed the January 2020 Update - ST.PSEV.KR.E540.200117

Quite a lot of new stuff, but nothing great.
In fact there is one annoyance you get a UVO advert at startup, which will reappear every 30 days.

The System Info page shows the time last updated, has a What's New section, and a Check Version button.


Clicking 'What's New' shows this.

Clicking 'Details' shows a changelog that is only in Korean


The Check Version button won't work without UVO ( no way for the car to call out without it)


A quite useless addition is the white noise - Sounds of Nature.


The music screen has improved slightly.

I installed this update onto my second Soul EV. (It's the same software on the same age car).
But this time I can't get rid of the annoying UVO advert at startup.
The option to ask again in 30 days does not appear.

This advert appears at every startup - after the 'lawyerse babble' screen.
Clicking 'Later' clears the advert, but it appears again at next startup.


Clicking 'Start' gets you the next 4 screens.


I don't want UVO, so do not do any of this.


I have not activated UVO. I do not want it!


This screen is a dead end. It just hangs at this point. I turn off the car to get rid of it.


In the system setup screen if I try to 'Check Version'. I get this 'Activate UVO' choice. Both Useless.
Oddly this is a different choice on the other car. Look at the screens above.

Upgraded to the April 2020 software a while ago now. (ST.PSEV.KR.E541.200401)
Only just noticed one interesting change.
The reversing camera screen has a settings icon in the top right.
When you click it you see this.

The bug with the UVO advert at startup has not been fixed.

Another change that I just noticed. I don't know when it happened. The Navigation Settings page has been rearranged.

For example I wrote back in Jan 2017 from the Setup / Navigation Page / Address Book Tab you can now Import and Export Address Books.

One screen seems to have disappeared entirely. Originally my car had a driving info screen under the UVO settings.
Then from about August 2019 this screen button moved to the All Menus page.
Now I can no longer find this screen. I always prefer having more data shown by the car.
It's annoying to lose functionality.

Good news for some outside Korea, the free navigation downloader is also available in US and Canada.
You can choose your country and language.

Also the best change to the last update I forgot to talk about.
The real vehicle speed is always shown at the top left of the map.

Have now installed the July 2020 software. (ST.PSEV.KR.E542.200731)
It re-arranges the UI again, and updates the Bluetooth audio.

When you press the media button - page has a new light grey color scheme. Radio and DMB icons added.


From the Setup Page you now see a choice General which was System before.


Bluetooth audio now shows an album art icon if you have an Internet connection. It uses SoundHound.
I don't have UVO so I see a generic colorful icon. Instead of the bland music symbol seen before.


Privacy Mode makes massive sense if you are in a rental car, and don't want the car to copy everything off your phone.

Am now downloading the September 2020 software. (ST.PSEV.KR.E542.200917)

The car gave an update message to say this was ready to download.



Finally a photo of the real speed shown in the navi. It is not the same as the faster speed shown in the instrument cluster.
The real vehicle speed is always shown at the top left of the map. In this photo I am stopped at lights, the speed is zero.



The change in this version is that the default setting is off.
The setting is in Navigation Settings / Display / Information / Show a Vehicle Speed.

A new warning message before you start the install process.



The new 'SW info' screen shows we have the 'Standard-class Gen4 Navigation'.



I like the new 'Charging / Climate Settings' icon.

Have now installed the February 2021 software. (ST.PSEV.KR.E543.210114)
Doesn't seem to add much.

Have now installed the June 2021 software. (ST.PSEV.KR.E544.210511)
Again it doesn't seem to add much.

But it did cause 2 glitches.
1/ The Charge Timer lost the 80% setting. But did keep the time.

And it still has the UVO glitch every time I turn the car on.

Added the latest update - ST.PSEV.KR.E545.210709

Again not much new.


But for those with the new EV6 it does add a 'Kia Pay' option to automatically pay for EV chargers.
It brings Hyundai / Kia closer to Tesla where you can just plug in at a charger and be automatically billed.
This service requires the latest 5W navigation. The only other EV I have seen with this is the Ioniq 5

Again not much new. (Which is why I skipped the Fall Update.)

Got an error first time I updated.

I re-downloaded the entire update, re-transferred it to the SD Card, and re-installed it to the car. This time it was successful.

The integrity of the software is checked by the car before you install, which prevents hacked data being installed.
But the integrity of the map data is checked by the car after you install which considerably wastes your time if there was a glitch in the downloading process.
 
I just wanted to say thank you for bringing this tool to our attention! I bought a used Soul EV last week without the nav SD card, and was able to make one with the tool, and now it also has the April 2022 maps and fixed the Bluetooth issues I was having when I first got the car! Very cool.

Adding the latest update - ST.PSEV.KR.E548.220822

There's a glitch on my navi screen which refuses to show any battery data.
That data does show up on the cluster so it's not a BMS fault.
Hoping a clean install of the software will fix the glitch.

The battery was actually at 80% not zero.

Update - an hour later.
Yes. The glitch is gone. Navi is working normally again.
