Afraid to use regenerative breaking for fear of being rear ended.

As EVDee says, the brake lights do come on. With Torque / Soul Spy you can see separate entries for brake lights on and for brake pedal pressed. You can then see that the brake lights come on when regenerative braking.

What to watch out for? (Besides Battery Health)

Found the thread with pictures of the heat pump valve block: http://www.mykiasoulev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=992

What to watch out for? (Besides Battery Health)

Heat pump is easy, just look at the air conditioner plumbing under the hood. If you have a heat pump there's an extra valve block on the left side of the car. There are pictures in a thread somewhere here. Battery heater I think can only be determined by using Soul Spy or Torque and watch it...

    recommended obd2 adapter?

Information from the ELM327 Identifier says it should be good i.e. it supports the 1.x protocols and not the 2.x protocols. The problem then comes of if it can pass enough data through without dropping bits of it, mine will work with Soul Spy and Torque but not if I try to connect to the bus...

    recommended obd2 adapter?

It's going to be a guess. I have one the same shape with a different label that does work. Best thing to do is just try it.

    2015 charging issues

That's not really a charging issue, the onboard charger is still charging the battery. It's either a battery issue or just drop in range with temperature. To determine if you have a battery issue, you can either ask the dealer for a battery State Of Health report (which they may charge for) or...

    Buying a 2016 needing a new battery

Depending on the weather where you are, 60 miles could be correct with 100% SoH. The car can drop up to 1/3 of its range in cold weather (Canada not Florida).

    City and Cruise type chargers?

Standard Level 2 EVSE is usually 240V @ 30A so 7.2kW 1st gen Soul EVs will only draw 90% of what the EVSE is capable of (for safety) so would charge at 6.5kW. Also note that in a commercial setting in North America then the EVSE may be powered from a 3 phase supply and be only 208V @ 30A so...

    Kia Soul EV Mood Lighting?

The speakers on top of the air vents are tweeters so will only have high pitched sounds and may not be easily heard. The main speakers are in the doors. The gas Soul has a subwoofer in the middle where the EV has charging lights.

What to watch out for? (Besides Battery Health)

The On Board Charger (OBC) sometimes needs replacement, but if it is at the dealer for a new battery then they should be doing all the recalls and that includes doing a firmware update to the OBC and checking it is working properly. I would get a mechanic to have a look at the brakes. With the...

    Considering buying a 2015

Minimal difference. I originally signed up for a 2015 but they ran out and finally delivered me a 2016. I think the charge cable lock is different, not sure if the 2015 locks the cable at all. Base model doesn't have a heat pump, so will use more battery in the winter. That may be more of a...

Charging Port Door Mechanism in WInter

On my 2016 I sometimes need to get one of my family to hold the door open button while I pry at the edges of it. Most times pressing the button unlatches it slightly and I can then pull it open. I have seen suggestions of using a silicone spray around the edges of the door to do it getting...

Is there a recall on Soul EV batteries?

No recall that I'm aware of. Possibly they mean that the battery has failed the warranty and they are replacing it already?

What will Torque do that Soul Spy won't?

I don't think that there is anything related to reading values from the Soul EV that Torque can do that Soul EV Spy cannot. Torque wants access to things like accelerometer and GPS data so it can capture things like 0-60 times and try to calculate how many horsepower you actually have, which is...

Is dealer SOH accurate or do I do my own?

Unfortunately the numbers you posted don't show the counters to know whether the BMS has been reset or not. If you have the VIN of the car you are looking at and phone Kia's corporate office, they may be able to tell you the history on the vehicle - particularly with respect to has the battery...

    recommended obd2 adapter?

Unless someone has actually tried it, the answer is "probably, but if it doesn't then tough luck". The fact that you had it working with Leaf Spy means that it is likely that it will work with Soul Spy. The problem with all of these is that they are built on cheap Chinese copied parts, not one...

Is dealer SOH accurate or do I do my own?

Two things: 1) The dealer SOH is the one that actually matters in terms of warranty replacement. The ones reported by Soul Spy and Torque are what people on this board have worked out to line up with the dealer SOH 2) The reported SOH can be at 100% if the Battery Management System (BMS)...

    Finding/Buying advice needed

It's not just the battery, there's the Onboard Charger and a bunch of other electronics involved in the electric powertrain. There are also things like the power brake system is unique and electrical rather than vacuum driven. There are a few odd ball things that are unique to the EV, some body...

Thinking of getting a higher mileage 2016

That sounds about right, particularly with it now being winter temperatures.
