What is the cost of DC Quick Charging in your area?

The PowerStream charger in Vaughan is experimental. The new charger at the Markham City Center (Hwy 7 & Warden) is the first commercial DCQC charger.

SK Innovation doubles EV battery production

Yes, that was the goal they stated for the Soul EV. I did some poking around http://ev-sales.blogspot.ca/ adding up the various reports for 2014 and through Jun / Jul 2015 ... the total there was around 3,000 give or take (in 2014 468 in Europe, 359 US, 21 Canada, 311 Korea, and through Jun/15...

Canadian availability of the Soul EV

Yes, that was the same line I got, along with a statement about the cost of installing the charger and the number of vehicles they'd have to sell just to break even on that ... which, in retrospect was BS ... the charger costs < $1000 .. the install might be a few thousand, but they would...

What is the cost of DC Quick Charging in your area?

In Toronto, we currently only have 4 quick chargers - 1 @ Nissan, 1 @ Mitsubishi (both free, but at least that Nissan one is restricted use), and there are 2 public DCQC, one an experimental install that is free, and the other is the first commercial DCQC in Ontario that is free until Sept, when...

Leaving fully charged for several days

I've done that via the rather awkward method of adjusting the charge time to start at the next nearest 10 minute interval ... usually when I arrive home at night, after my 10:30pm 80% charge start time ... otherwise my 5:30am charge to 100% would run well into high-priced power time!

Att: Toronto Owners: Home Charging Station

The cost of installation will depend a great deal on the distance between the breaker panel and the location of the charger. The wire (8/3) is rather expensive. In addition, it depends a great deal on the obstacles between the breaker panel and the charger too. I installed my own charger, but I...

    L3 Charging rates

I was doing a simple projection ... I didn't take into account the 300w/h or so cooling overhead that occurs during charging. I also suspect that the apparent variability is more due to measurement error ... i.e. the estimated start point could be off by the range of ~1%, or ~0.277kWh, so the...

Little things owners have noticed on the Soul EV

Ditto for me ... after the comments, I read the manual and realized it could be adjusted ... I never would have thought it would be adjustable!

Going on Vacation - Turn Off 12V Battery with Fusebox Switch.

How long a period sitting, should the car have the 12vdc batter disconnected? 1 week? 2 weeks? more? I too would never have thought of doing this! There are a few minor settings that have to be re-programmed if the battery is disconnected ... F/C for temperature was 1 I had to reset after...

    L3 Charging rates

I did a larger charge on the new Markham, ON DC quick charger last evening, and noted the kWh of charge and battery %. This time I was charging from 24% or 25%: % % change kWh Proj Batter Capacity 65% ~40% 11.3kWh 11.3/.4 = 28.25kWh ... charger started slow @122A...

Monitoring & Recording charging power uptake

I am planning on putting a kWh meter on my charger in the near future ... I'm curious too about the power usage, and I'd actually like to be able to properly track how much I use for the EV vs other uses in my home. I considered the Raspberry Pi power monitor ... it looked very nice, and allowed...

    L3 Charging rates

I charged at a new DCQC charger this afternoon (2nd public/non-dealer charger in Toronto!!), from 78% to 84% ... this was a much more sophisticated charger that showed the voltage and current ... 390vdc and it started at 125A and tapered down to 40A at 84%. This charger is only a few minutes...

Little things owners have noticed on the Soul EV

Anyone else have issue with the front seat head rests - I find they tilt in too much (or I don't tilt my seat back as far as they expected), and as a result I cannot sit comfortably resting my head in the head rest ... I have to sit slightly forward ... with any other vehicles I've owned, the...

    L3 Charging rates

While charging at a L3 charger this evening, I paid much closer attention to how long it took to charge, my start and end charge %, and computed the charging rate. It took 40 minutes to charge from 12% to 84%, so 72% of the battery capacity of 27 kWh, or 19.44kWh, and a charge rate of ~29 kW/h...

    110V vs 220V in efficiency?

Ah, but it does matter ... there is a fixed overhead of approx 300w for charging. From the Batteries and Charging discussions on EVSE Upgrade: Even just charging at 120v@16A using a different 120v charger provides ~1.62 kWh of charging vs 120v@12A providing just 1.14 kWh, after overhead ...

Just picked up a 2016 Soul EV

I find my range varies depending on the previous days' driving ... it has ranged from a low of approx 145km (91mi) in the cold of winter with highway driving, to a high of 187km (117mi) a week or two ago with moderate weather and no recent highway driving (> 100km/h / 60mi/hr).

This can be turned off ... it is configurable for any address book entry. I forget the exact switch, but if you open the address book entry, there is an "On/Off" simulated slider you can choose to turn on/off the arrival ding.

    Driving Efficiency

I have also found that a DC Quick Charge resets it, as does, and strangle so, just a partial charge. Full charges seem to keep the history going. I don't think they have the algorithms for it right ... I've noticed variances of as much as 20%-30% in my range, with no variance reported on the...

Canadian availability of the Soul EV

titanium - sweet ... that was always my preferred colour, but it was not available in Canada for the 2015 model. Even in the US, it was listed as only available for the Lux / Plus model. Good that they are adding it for the 2016!

Canadian availability of the Soul EV

From what I could tell, while I was waiting, it is 100% Kia Corp that is at fault ... the local dealerships and even Kia Canada seem to be kept in the dark as to availability and what is happening - I'm guessing Kia has never had to deal with an order backlog and demand exceeding supply (at...
