    Battery Ageing Model

Borrowed the dealers 2016 Demo Soul EV while having mine at 2:nd service. It had only done 950km. I connected my "Soul Spy" logger and found some interesting stuff. Stopped at a Chademo QC on the way to work, and noticed a peculiar behaviour of the SOC from 81 to 84%: Timestamp 08:50:06 SOC=...

    Soul Spy?

OK! So the apps need to check on this data to display the correct A/C current. Shouldn't be a problem, just check if OBC1 current value is more than say 200, then it's OBC2 and the real current value is on the next two positions.

    It's a Scandinavian thing, actually it's a 'MIL' =10 km. I think the EU standard is '19.2kWh/100km'

    Soul Spy?

Attention all appmakers dealing with the Soul EV: I think I have identified a difference in the data from the OBC controller, between YM15 and YM16. Had my YM15 in for 2:nd service (30000km) this week, and borrowed the dealer's YM16 demo car during that day. Hooked on my OBD logger and found...

    Battery Ageing Model

    As it happens, I had another decrease of my deterioration values last night. Date Km Max Cell Min Cell SOC 2015-11-01 9.3% 32 8.3% 1 92.5% 2015-11-05 18780 9.8% 2 8.4% 8 92.5% 2015-11-19 19751 10.3% 24 9.2% 1 91.5%...

    Soul Spy?

I have proposed a swap between "Battery Module 8 Temperature" and "Battery Inlet Temperature" in the "BMC_Data" tab of the spreadsheet, because these temperatures don't behave as they should. It's seen best during a quick charge, because the battery modules get rapidly heated, and #8 doesn't...

    Battery Calibration

The same feeling as I have had about this. And from my data logs I can tell, with reasonable confidence, that the calibration is done at around 92% SOC. It did every time the deterioration values changed for me. Actually, with the relatively high frequency the deterioration values seem to be...

Setting up Torque to show BMS data

Haven't had much time for the Soul Spy work lately, but at least my data logger is working fine. :geek: So, I made an effort and tried to identify the unknown data from the VMC unit. At my first service occation I got a printout from the GDS instrument, listing both the BMS and the VMC data. I...

    Battery Calibration

    So, I finally got another change in my deterioration values. And this time they took a big leap backwards! Date Km Max Cell Min Cell SOC 2015-11-01 9.3% 32 8.3% 1 92.5% 2015-11-05 18780 9.8% 2 8.4% 8 92.5% 2015-11-19 19751 10.3% 24 9.2%...

    Soul Spy?

Yes, my car also showed 100% SOH at first service I made in october. I'm over 27000km now so service #2 is coming soon, probably beginning of april. I will try to get as much info from their instrument as possible. First time I got printouts of BMS, including all battery cell's individual...

    Soul Spy?

Thought I'd share my way of dealing with this.. Old school but it works. I am using an embedded PC (Win XP / Pentium-m, modern people would probably use RaspPi or similar, but a laptop is fine) as a "real-time" logger which pulls ~15 samples/min and stores the data in raw text files...

    Soul Spy?

My last change was in dec 23, and since then I have made 4000km with no change in these numbers. January was pretty cold so a "winter effect" is an interesting theory. (We had lots of days with -15 -25C and the esimated range was down to around 115km at 100% SOC, and it seemed to be really...

Battery Bars full until I hit 87%

This is normal. The topmost segment (Seg18) turns off at (or stays on until) 88% during discharge, and turns on at 90% during charge. From Seg18 and downwards all other segments are switched at 5% intervals. Why, I don't know, but the service manual tells so.

    Battery degradation

Interesting! 10km range would be about 2kWh of energy. Was the car connected to the grid at that time? If not, this might be evidence of what's hinted in the service manual; that the battery heater is operated if needed even if it's not connected, as long as the SOC is high enough. The user...

    Soul Spy?

Is there any terminal mode in Torque? In that case you should be able to use the 'ATRV' command that returns the 12V battery voltage seen by the ELM dongle itself, even if there is no CAN communication. A fully charged lead-acid battery will (when charging has stopped) eventually settle around...

    Winter in Toronto

 Thanks for pointing this out! - It just hit me that I noticed the heater power going down when accelerating, and slowly increasing when returning to light load.. looked strange at the time, but this is probably the explanation! More waste energy gets available for the heat pump when...

    Winter in Toronto

Yes, it's a heat pump model (2015). I actually doubt that the heat pump is doing much at -20C, but this might be a challenge for the Soul Spy and OVMS projects to find out.. ;)

    Winter in Toronto

Hi, just want to share some cold climate experience, being in my first winter with the Soul EV. The other day I took my daily commute to work (50 km one way) in -23C. I had a comfortable +19C set for the heater, and at arrival the car had used 44%. The best I had during summer was 22%, so half...

Red Range Bars Started to Blink w/ Concomitant Loss of Range

I had this once this summer, after 4500km and at ambient temp of 20C. After turning off the car and restarting, I have not seen it ever since, and thought it was gone. But yesterday, after the odometer had passed 22850km and the temperature was -1C, it happened again. This time the flickering...
