Coolant and Radiator ?

Just got a new Soul EV.
I notice a Coolant reservoir under the hood. I'm curious as to the purpose of the coolant for this EV .

It's for the climate control / heat pump.

Actually, it is for cooling the motor, controller, charger, DC-DC converter for the 12V system. High power electronics generate significant heat in small locations and this heat has to be removed. Liquid cooling is most efficient at this. The heat/cooling of the cabin is provided by a heat pump/PTC heater.

I taught that the heat pump would recuperated the heat from the coolant to heat the cabin.

if not then it is a simple air to air heat pump, not very efficient below freezing point.

The heat pump efficiently combines the A/C and heater into one system while greatly reducing energy consumption.
It also utilizes waste heat from the Soul EV’s electrical systems to help heat the cabin.
