Here's my replacement saga up to now: After down to 40 miles range on a full charge and frequent turtle mode warnings I took it into Kia of Santa Monica on Jan. 6 (only open since September, but closer than Kia Van Nuys and they paid for an Uber to get me home). Three hours later, I get a call from the service rep saying that's it's qualified for a replacement and they've contacted Kia Corporate for approval. They couldn't release the car to me while waiting for the battery; no loaner available, but they will pay for a rental. My wife was going out of town for a week, so I used her car in the meantime and would get the rental later. Then the Palisades fire erupted and the dealership had to shut down for a week.
Yesterday, I texted with the service rep to set up the rental car and she replied that's fine, but your Soul EV will be ready on Friday! Really?! She said she'll call me around 1:30 tomorrow, the 24th, to confirm the replacement has been installed and tested. I'll post an update whether or not that happens.
Good news! She texted me around noon and I picked it up soon after: Sparking clean with 80 miles at 75% charged! It drove like it was brand new. The invoice showed they cleared the SC287 recall by updating the software; rotated the tires; and installed the "new" battery pack and BMS module.
"Scanned vehicle and found code P1B71, battery voltage too high. Opened Techline Case #..... Based on information Techline opened a PWA Case #.... and approved battery pack replacement following TSB (ELE 310) procedures. Verified repair, performed ECU update, cleared code, reset values, test drove vehicle, ok at this time." Please pay this amount: 0.00.

Can't really ask for a better experience after reading the dozens of battery replacement horror stories. Did I just get lucky or has KIA finally figured it out?
I trickle charged it overnight and at 100% it shows 113 miles. I realize that time will tell and I shouldn't be so excited; lets see if it's still perfect after a couple of months. Many thanks for all your support and valuable info!

Congratulations. My experience with Kia itself was mostly good. And the turnaround time for their part was good. It was the actual dealership that failed miserably in several facets. Even then, my time frame was still much less than the earlier horror stories you referenced. Unfortunately, Kia apparently has little recourse, and probably hesitant anyway, to try to hold individual dealerships to account.
