quick question ( I've got a Hyundai Ioniq Electric and apparently they need the same adapter).

Are there Bluetooth 4 (BLE) adapters that work as well? Low power would be nice...

Thank you very much,
Christoph

anyone?

Sorry for not replying earlier, the answer is yes. But I don't know which until someone posts that they have one that is working.
The latest version of Torque is required to use these new adapters.

A posting from another I oniq user on the github forum: https://github.com/JejuSoul/OBD-PIDs-for-HKMC-EVs/issues/6#issuecomment-385395606
He had been using the blue adapter below which reads the BMS values but fails to see the VMCU.
He then swapped to the white one. Tested both with ELM327 identifier, images below.

(yes, I know this is a KiaSoul forum, but ODB2 are quite same than Hyundai Ioniq, so you would benefit of this info too)

Tested Carista adapter on Hyundai Ioniq EU version and it's a valid Bluetooth 4 BLE type ELM327 up to v1.4a working fine and fast. Apparently the adapters that work are those supporting officially ISO 15765-4 CAN (500 kbit/s).

FYI there is a very interesting info on ELM327 clones on wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELM327#Pirate_clones.

This is the one that I use with my Soul EV. Works great with Torque Pro!
I bought this LELink BLE one to use with Leaf Spy, works great there. However, did not work with Torque Pro, even with the latest versions with BLE support.

Firstly a reminder that the best tool for checking your adapter is ELM327 Identifier from Google play Store: ELM327 Identifier app

And an amusing image problem occurring on the first and third page of this thread.
It seems user SoulEV2016 has lost control of his image account and some random shopping site has taken over.

Can someone in France contact him and ask him to fix this. Am hoping it is not his prison uniform.

*** I deleted this image in my post in a week, so that it doesn't further clog up the thread. But I can't delete them on his posts.

Another vote for the Panlong adapter. It's worked on everything I've tried it on!
(Edit) I used the ELM 327 Identifier today and the results are the same as the Carista adapter mentioned above.

I continue to recommend the the Konnwei KW902 for use with Torque Pro.
This is also the best adapter to get if you are going to use the SoulEVSpy app. - Re: Soul Spy?

...The only dongle supported by the SoulEVSpy app is the Konnwei KW902.
KW902 is not necessarily better than the other dongles mentioned, it is just that the dongles are all different, and it is very complex to write an app that supports all the differences. And the KW902 is what I use for development and debugging. I have limited time for the SoulEVSpy project, so I have chosen to support one dongle...
I have been using mine for 4 years now without problem. - Re: recommended obd2 adapter?
I recommend the Konnwei KW902 for use with Torque Pro.

I added an OBD extension wire with a switch.
I pushed the OBD connector back out of its clip to allow room for the plastic cover to be closed. The OBD extension wire is threaded under the steering column so that the switch and adapter can sit under the navigation by the accessory ports.

-----

I have recently bought a second 2015 Soul EV, and acquired a second Konnwei KW902. It works fine.
Slight differences. The Power / Reset button works on the newer one.
The new one is labelled Bluetooth 3.0.
As before I bought a '16 Pin Male to Female Right Angle Diagnostic Extension Cable with Power Switch', to keep things tidy.

The old box is on the left. It seems they have added a Bluetooth 4 version. I have Bluetooth 3.
I just looked and cannot find anyone selling a Bluetooth 4 version.

The adapter I bought is called 'Bluetooth OBDII Diagnostic Tool KONNWEI KW902 Android Auto Diagnostic S_can Tool ELM327 O.B.D2 V1.5' on A_mazon. There is no such thing as V1.5 in ELM327 as you can see below.
Some of the sellers of KW902s claim to be V2,1 in ELM327. This is a lie. Do not pay extra for this.
I believe the wifi version works but I have not tested it.
I have never seen a site selling a Bluetooth Low Energy version of the KW902.
This adapter identifies itself as 'Konnwei', whereas my previous KW902 called itself 'Konnwei OBDII'.

I'm considering buying a Soul EV to replace the 2017 Leaf I wrecked last week. Back in 2017 I bought the adapter recommended for Leaf Spy: the LE Link OBD II.

Does anyone know if this will work with the Soul?

Unless someone has actually tried it, the answer is "probably, but if it doesn't then tough luck". The fact that you had it working with Leaf Spy means that it is likely that it will work with Soul Spy.

The problem with all of these is that they are built on cheap Chinese copied parts, not one of them has a genuine ELM327, and who knows what they are using for the serial to bluetooth conversion chip. Some different adaptors have the same innards, some adaptors that look the same on the outside and are sold as being the same come with different innards. It's all random guesswork when dealing with cheap Chinese junk.

No. Well mostly no.
Almost all these adapters are Chinese clones. All use pirated ELM software. But some of them have been around a long time, and have tried to build a reliable brand image. Originally L eafSpy recommended the Konnwei KW902. This adapter was then the one we chose.
---
SoulSpy will only support the Konnwei KW902. Many others will work, but if you have problems you are on your own.

I have 2 Konnwei KW902. Both work.
Using Torque will work on many other adapters but the only adapter you can get help with here is the KW902.
---
The blot on Konnwei's image came in early 2017.
Some idiot at the factory misread the spec and soldered 20 ohm resistors onto the boards rather than 120 ohms.
This mistake was shortlived, but it did alter the recommendation for L eafSpy
Turbo3 who writes the L eafSpy software swapped to a LELink adapter. see - Warning: Defective Konnwei KW-902 on the market

If anyone uses a new adapter please add some details on this thread to say whether it works or not.

Hi everyone,

I purchased on Ebay, and have just received my Konnwei 902 OBD2 adapter.

Here's the link to the item in question: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/ELM327-Bluetooth-OBD2-OBDII-Car-Code-Reader-Diagnostic-Scanner-For-Android-PC/254140503730?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I performed the resistance check to be sure I had a good unit, and it read 120 ohms. So far so good.

Plugged it into my 2016 Soul EV, started the car, then the Soulspy app, and everything worked perfectly. State of health is listed at 94,4% Yay!

I'm glad with my purchase. I hope this can help anyone looking to purchase a compatible adapter.

It's going to be a guess. I have one the same shape with a different label that does work.
Best thing to do is just try it.

That's about what I figured. I was just hoping with the info from ELM327 Identifier that someone could tell me if they thought it would be a definite no-go. I don't want to spend money if I don't need to, but I'd like to have a usable adapter ready to go when I pick up my car sometime within the next week.

Information from the ELM327 Identifier says it should be good i.e. it supports the 1.x protocols and not the 2.x protocols.

The problem then comes of if it can pass enough data through without dropping bits of it, mine will work with Soul Spy and Torque but not if I try to connect to the bus and dump all traffic manually.

Thanks! I was thinking it should be good from the results. I've used it with Torque, Dash, and a few other apps without issue over the years on other vehicles. I've never attempted to manually dump the data. I'll get Soul Spy on my phone ready to go for when I pickup the car and hope for the best.

A recent thread talking about OBD adapter problems here - ODB2 USB vs. Blue Tooth

There's also an interesting rant about the problems so many people have with these adapters here - Car Scanner : Choosing OBDII adapter

You should know that, most of cheap adapters (with price <$50) are NOT actually ELM327. They are Chinese clones, pretending to be ELM327, acting like ELM327.

What is so bad with “clones”?

Buying a cheap Chinese clone is like playing against casino – casino always wins.

Most of “clones” have different bugs.

In fact, there are several “real” versions of Chinese clones:

Old clones, marked as “v.1.4” or “v.1.5”, they were built very well, supported 90% of ELM327 command set and in most cases worked like original ELM327 without any bugs. It’s very hard to find such a good clone now.
Newer clones, marked “v.2.1”. This is a piece of shit. 100% of that clones has bugs (see list of known bugs below). If you see cheap ELM327 marked as “v.2.1” AVOID BUYING THIS CRAP!
Smart-ass Chinese fake-makers, that made v.2.1 clones realised, that consumers prefer buying ELM327 clones, marked as “v.1.4” or “v.1.5” and don’t want to buy “v.2.1”, that was full of bugs. So, what have they done? They just changed version string in “v.2.1” to “v.1.5”. And we have actually “v.2.1” clones, but marked as “v.1.5”. They are just the same piece of shit as v.2.1 with changed version string.

Hi - I'm looking for OBD 2 dongle wireless or bluetooth for electric car model 2023, brand JAC E-JS4 ( oyher countries named Sehol EX40, ESei4 Pro or Sihao e40x.

I’m not looking this for business, what I only need is any tool (dongle USB or wireless for android version 14) not for commercial purposes this is for my own usage because I want to monitoring the state of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SoH) for Propulsion battery. But I need to make sure this tool supports my EV JAC E-JS4.

There is no recent info here.
I recommend you try instead :- Car Scanner : Choosing OBDII adapter

Although the downside to the Car Scanner page is that they financially profit from recommending the most expensive version.
Normally I would avoid suggesting such a site because of potential bias due to the conflict of interest.
But there isn't anywhere else giving better info.

Thanks so much for the information, let me try one of the recommendations on the Car Scanner: Choosing OBDII adapter link you shared.
