We just got the news that the transmission in our 2016 Soul Ev has failed. The indications were a substantial leak and a clunking when the wheels were turned. The quote for replacement is $5236 parts + $1900 labor + tax. We learned of this when taking it in for a brake issue. (Another ~$700 quoted for full service on those.)

I would conclude that the car must be basically scrap given that it has over 100k miles, but the battery was just replaced, so yeah ... hope springs eternal, as they say. I'm mulling my options.

Any sage advice, wisdom or anything other than insults will be appreciated. ;-)

Thanks!

Thanks, @ksoul2084. I tried the top two local transmission shops. They said they don't work on EVs. Ugh. This car is used by a college student who is 400 miles away in a car dependent area, so I'm gonna take my lumps and move on.

Bummer. I had to literally convince my guy (whom I knew from an earlier transmission replacement on a different ICE car) to do it by showing him the procedure out of the Shop manual, etc. I was lucky he agreed to it.

@PopcornAndData, can you get that battery removed for some lucky owner's out-of-warranty replacement? I already got mine, but am sure there's somebody on here ready and willing for a DIY swap. If not, our modules are desirable for DIY EV conversions, given their power and energy density. DIY EVs don't tend to accrue as many miles, so it would be a much longer-lived pack in that duty cycle. Or at a minimum, the pack value should factor into a better price from the salvage yard.
