Upgrading the radio/navigation unit

My navigation unit is working fine, but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck installing an aftermarket unit for better UI performance. I've seen installation videos on YouTube for such a thing, but they are for the ICE version and so they have no battery info integration. Any ideas?

I just use Apple CarPlay on mine, you get the full iOS experience as fast as your phone can run it.

I believe Android Auto is also supported, but I'm not familiar with it.
