Resolved: Heat pump stopped working after climate software update SA427, fixed via Kia Service Action 210031

Mine was updated a couple of weeks ago to the bad version. I opened a case on the Kia Canada website yesterday and I'm waiting for the initial reply from them - website says it could be up to 48 hours.

The Internet Turned on the Kia Soul Today and Things Got Mean

Not many Soul EV's, the gasoline powered ones are common enough for memes.

Has anyone replaced their 12V battery with lithium?

It seems to last 3-5 years, perhaps because of the way it is charged via the DC/DC converter from the main battery versus a gasoline engine alternator. I know one of the early firmware changes was to how the 12V was being charged. One of the nasty things is that you get no warning of it being...

Soul EV Spy Questions and Answers

The battery temperature also has to be above 10C as well as charging from below 20% to 100% in one continuous charge for the BMS to recalibrate.

    Original Bag/Case for Charging Cord

I suspect that's the charge for the EVSE itself and not for any bag. Mine wasn't in any special bag, it may have been in one of those parts plastic bags that you rip open but I don't recall.

Help wanted analyzing Soul Spy EV Battery results

Don't focus on the actual colours, use them to guide you as to which cells are showing different voltages. A good battery will be the same voltages on all cells, you have cells 1, 14 and 96 that are showing lower than the others and cell 1 is called out as the cell with the worst deterioration...

As we have been suggesting in the other threads, you have a bad battery. That SOH is correct. You should be talking to your dealer about getting the battery replaced.

S1 At Home Charging Problems: 2018 Soul

The big thing is having the timed charging button pushed in before plugging it in. I always set the parking brake anyway, but I don't think it matters. Turn the car off, make sure the timed charging button is in, plug the EVSE in to the wall first and then the car, and it should charge. If that...

    New at Home Charging Concerns

Level 1 charging is slow. Before I had my level 2 installed then I sometimes had charge times of over 24 hours. If it gets cold enough that it needs to run the battery heater, you end up putting very little electricity in the battery, most of it is going to run the charging electronics and...

How much kWh does a full charge take?

Charging at lower speeds takes longer. With the electronics needing a constant amount of power, this means that more power is wasted.

    I only get 50 km, 2015 Soul estimates 130.

No that's not normal. I'm in Ottawa, Canada where we get -20C in the winter, sometimes colder. At the worst my winter range is 2/3 of my summer range. From this and your other threads, you have a bad battery.

How much kWh does a full charge take?

Yes, that's correct. In fact it will take a little more because the charging isn't 100% efficient. There's some power used to run all the electronics that control the charging, plus losses in converting from the incoming voltage to the battery voltage.

Adding a Level 2 Charger at my Home?

I'm presuming you are USA / Canada from the way you talk about a 240V outlet for a dryer and having a level 1 EVSE currently. North American dryer outlets are a NEMA 14-30 and are fused at 30A. Most EVSE with a plug have a NEMA 14-50 plug. EVSE are continuous load and so they can only use 80%...

    I only get 50 km, 2015 Soul estimates 130.

I wonder if your battery is bad but the BMS has been reset and hasn't learnt how bad the battery is yet so it is showing you close to the default range. Definitely read the SoH but also look at the Cumulative values for charged and discharged and see if they are low. If the Cumulative values...

Humidity detector is the lump behind the rear view mirror. You can see if it is in auto defog if you press the Climate button to bring up the climate modes on the screen.

    My SoulEv "16 (battery questions)

When they updated the BMS it forgot the health of your battery. You need a few charges from < 20% to 100% for it to learn the health again. If you only ever charge to 80% it doesn't learn.

How important is a battery warranty on a 2017 Kia Soul EV?

I would check the battery state of health. If it's good (and not just having had updates done that reset it to good), and given that you only plan to keep it for a few years then it's probably worth the risk. Otherwise I would take it back and get your money back as what they sold you (car with...

Please do keep us in the loop. Living in Canada, the heat pump was the reason I went up the trim level as it wasn't on the base model.

    Am I charging too often

If it's reporting 16 miles and you aren't doing much more than that, then I think you have a battery that has gone bad. I suspect that when you bought the car it had just had a BMS update which clears what the BMS knows about the battery so it reports full range. Over the next little while it...

    Am I charging too often

It is saying 16 miles expected range but you are still doing a 60 mile trip? That's weird.
