    Anyone switch from CNG?

76 miles in itself should be fine, but doesn't leave you much cushion for running errands after work. Have you checked PlugShare to see if there are any places to charge at/near your workplace in case you need it? Is your freeway driving often in rush hour traffic, or at highway speeds? EVs...

"stiff suspension makes for an uncomfortable, choppy ride"?

Thanks, that's helpful. About half of my daily commute is on suburban streets with speed limits of 35-45 mph (~55-75 kph), the other half spent at 55-70 mph (~90-115 kph) on highways. The higher speeds bleed efficiency and range (as does my driving style), so I tend to average 4.2-4.4 mi/kWhr...

    Front Bumper and Horn Replacement

Awesome find, thanks for sharing. Have you removed the reverse chime? If so, what was involved? The horn is pretty puny, right? Let us know how this goes. If it's an easy upgrade, I can foresee a lot of owners trying it.

Nice--we'd love to see photos of your car! You can use a free service like Photobucket or Tumblr (or myrid others) to host photos so that you can link to them here.

"stiff suspension makes for an uncomfortable, choppy ride"?

That makes sense - thanks for the clarification.

"stiff suspension makes for an uncomfortable, choppy ride"?

So much of that info doesn't align with the how the Soul EV has been advertised here in the US market. I've never heard anyone claim 132 miles on a charge for these cars; it's achievable, but would require hypermiling techniques. Standard UK voltage is 230V (not 120V like in the US) which is...

    Range and HOV Questions

Even with state-of-the-art technology, some degree of degradation over time is inevitable no matter what sort of battery you have. It's just the nature of the beast. Environmental variables--particularly climate (and thus how hot the battery pack gets while charging) seems to be the biggest...

    Range and HOV Questions

Update: I found these two very useful tables (mph & kph) on the Nissan Leaf forum. The Leaf's range values don't directly correlate to the Soul EV's range, of course, but the impact of speed-related aero drag and friction losses should be similar.

Anyone bought a Kia Soul EV?

Here in the US, the Nissan Leaf is a pretty direct competitor to the Soul in terms of size and range. Nissan is finding that wholesale values of Leafs turned at the end of 24 month leases are substantially lower than what was projected at the start of the leases--to the point that Nissan...

    Range and HOV Questions

In my experience, the available driving range correlates directly to the average vehicle speed. I do a lot of highway driving, and travelling at 75 mph saps the range much more quickly than driving the same stretch of road at 55. In-town driving averaging 30 mph is much better still. If only...

    Switching Rims

The white wheel inserts are my least favorite thing about my Soul EV -- I'm seriously considering painting them silver to match the rest of the wheel. All five inserts are removable via nuts secured from the back side of the wheel, but removing the inserts exposes those unattractive holes. I...

New colour on the European web site - Black with red!

For now, the interior color is the same light gray for all Soul EVs. Which I think is too bad - I really like the black interior that is available in the gasoline-powered Soul. I have really enjoyed my Soul so far - I'm sure that you will to!

    Insurance rates

Call your carrier! ;) Insurance rates are largely governed by replacement value. While MSRP for a gasoline Soul is $15,000-$20,000, MSRP for a Soul EV is about double.

Can Soul EV be driven aggressively? How's its handling?

I believe in aftermarket suspension for everything! But as this is a leased car, I doubt I'll modify anything. If I was leasing a Leaf, however, I'd be pretty tempted. Nissan cut some corners in that department.

Soul EV availability: 5 more states announced

Count me as one of the Georgia residents who is sorry to see the EV incentive about to expire--which I why I bought my Soul EV this spring instead of later in the year. The insider talk I've heard is that even though Kia is making the Soul EV available in more markets, they are still bringing...

Can Soul EV be driven aggressively? How's its handling?

I think Kia did a great job with the suspension damping--the ride is both comfortable yet controlled. There's none of the floaty feeling you get from some other compact cars. The weight and placement of the battery pack gives the car better balance and turn-in feel than the gas-powered Soul...

    motor whirring noise?

After getting used to my parents' Nissan Leaf (which is itself very quite) and getting used to the drivetrain whine at speed, I was shocked at how dead silent the Soul EV's drivetrain is. The cabin is so quiet that at low speeds I can hear the faint hum of the seat cooling fans when they're...

is there a negative effect on battery longevity each plugin?

Get an L2 charger! It's a life saver!! 8-) The frequency of plugging in shouldn't have near as much impact as the temperature of the battery pack while it's charging. For example, some Nissan leaf owners in hot climates have experienced accelerated battery degradation because their pack gets...

    Soul EV Badge Replacement

We replaced the trunk badge on my wife's Sorento with one from a kit we found on Amazon. The old badge was adhesive, so making the swap was easy. However the wheel centers, steering wheel and nose badges were not really removable, so I decided not to mount the new adhesive badges over them.
