    Roof rack

I have a RightLine Gear cargo saddlebag. I haven't tried it on my Soul yet, but if you're just looking to haul stuff but not bulky items like bikes, skis or kayaks, it might be an easy, inexpensive alternative. Capacity is about 13 cubic ft / 370 liters.

Our 2-month old 2016 died (firmware update needed)

The car was fine today, so charging the 12V battery seems to have done the trick. I'll ask about a firmware update the next time I stop by the dealer.

Our 2-month old 2016 died (firmware update needed)

When I turned on my Soul EV this morning, there was a large 'battery voltage' error displayed on the dash screen. The battery pack had about 85% charge, so I tried to drive the car anyway. I immediately noticed that it would not exceed 30mph/50kph so I turned around, parked the car, plugged it...

Do you hear the high pitch sound?

I assume you refer to a quiet, high-pitch whine at a constant pitch that is most easily heard at lower speeds? If so, that's a sound intentionally emitted by the car to provide an 'acoustical alert' to warn pedestrians of your vehicle. Sound-based warnings are mandatory for EVs in a number of...

Is you tailgate hard to completely close?

I find my Soul's tailgate to be very light and easy to close. On the other hand, our Kia Sorento's liftgate is quite heavy and has a tendency to rebound open slightly when closed with too much force.

Jack for a Kia Soul EV

At about 3,300 lbs / 1,500 kg, the Soul EV is heavier than the regular Soul but not abnormally heavy -- comparable to a Honda Accord or VW Passat. Since a jack is merely lifting one corner or side and not the entire vehicle weight, standard vehicle jacks should be fine. I have yet to lift my...

    Charging Fault error.

Good find! That site also lists the battery pack at $13,511 and the UVO infotainment assembly at $3,904

    Arizona SOUL EV Heat testing

No, not at all. It may be worth noting that while our daytime highs approach that of Phoenix, our nights (when most of us charge) are much cooler here in Atlanta. Daily weather charts for June 1 - Sept 30 2015 (thanks Weather U!) Atlanta, USA Phoenix, USA

is it true kia lease doesn't allow 4 normal wear and tear?

I was offered a whole menu of protection plans to choose from. I wasn't going to sign up for any, but I ended up selecting a plan that covers any interior damage because I have small children. I'm a Costco member, so after a promotional discount the plan only cost $10 per month, or $360 over the...

Thanks for the update -- glad you got this one resolved!

    Range from 100% Charge Dropping

I manually reset the in-dash efficiency counter almost every time I get in the car, and check my Driving History screen a couple of times a week.

    Range from 100% Charge Dropping

I've had my Soul for seven months and have driven it about 7,000 miles (11,000 km). Off the showroom floor, my indicated available range was 115 miles. I charge to 100% each night, and my indicated available range quickly fell to about 105 miles. Lately my indicated available range is about 95...

    Questions about range and speed

Top speed in these cars is 93 mph / 150 kph. I commute under 65 mph speed limits and don't have any trouble keeping up with traffic at or above that. Like others said above, higher speeds do drain the battery more quickly - but this car should easily meet your described needs. One key thing...

New owner thank you and questions...

Carmakers routinely use the tow hooks to secure vehicles while in transit. I've never seen a car on a showroom floor without the covers in place, so as mentioned, they could very well be stowed within your vehicle if you collected your car just after it was delivered to your dealership.

    Random Races with other EVs

They're very closely matched - if anything, the Leaf is slightly faster. I think you got lucky ;) For what it's worth, I think that the i3 about the fastest accelerating car that BMW makes up until ~75 kph. Mighty impressive at city speeds.

Things you don't like about the Soul EV

Agreed. From a user perspective, it would indeed be ideal to be able to define a 'charging window' instead of merely a 'start charging' time. The Leaf operates the same way, for what it's worth.

Do you bring in your EV for Service?

How many miles? The owners manual says that regular maintenance intervals are 6 months or 7,500 miles (12,000 km). Checklist items are easy DIY for home mechanics: - Rotate tires; inspect tire pressure and tread wear - Replace climate control air filter - Inspect air conditioning components...

    Lease Transfers

That said, if the Soul EV is not sold in your state then your local dealership staff have not been trained to service these cars. One forum member moved to a new state and his (new) local dealership balked at even taking a look at their car: http://mykiasoulev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=348

No need to tap; just ignore it for a few seconds and it disappears. I hardly even notice it anymore.
