Hello,
I'm new(ish) here and had purchased a 2016 last month. The vehicle had a history of accident and rebuilt title, no airbag deployed but there was front damage but didn't affect the electronics under the hood, but affected some of the proximity sensors. It has a new traction battery, cable harnesses, BMS s/w upgrade, installed by KIA for free, including coolant flush, even though it was past warranty at 167k (I think this is for another discussion, if anybody care to ask), and I just had to wait two weeks for it to be finished.
So far it runs great, range when the weather here was in the negative double digits was 125 kms at full charge, but now with warmer weather I am seeing 135kms, on the dash, although I am noticing the actual is more, from my gps range vs what's the reduction on the dashboard indicator.
I have a couple of issues, one is the proximity sensors sometimes beeps even though I don't see why it should, for me this is a minor issue. The second one, is the one I want to solve first, I think this is not serious also, maybe someone will correct me on this - it's the airbag indicator on the dash, its intermittently coming on and off. I scanned with a Torque (didn't show anything) and Car Scanner showed the above code B1730 SRS/Airbag.
From my quick research, this code is comes up when the resistance reading on the belt tensioner, driver side is above threshold. To me this make most sense that this is the problem, since likely on impact, this was triggered during the collision. I don't quite fully understand it yet, but I am torn between bringing it to KIA for further investigation (likely costly) or DIY, but I need to know and understand it better first. Internet searches points to a loose cable (i did a quick check under the driver seat and I cannot see anything obvious) or the belt tensioner needs replacement, which I do not know enough on how to check this one. I am aware of the risks involved, in that the SRS system shouldn't be serviced until the 12V battery is disconnected first and give enough time for the system to discharge the voltages first before messing with the harness or removing the belt tensioner.
But I do not have a service manual, so I am hoping someone can provide me even just a screenshot of the driver side SRS system and associated components mentioned above, if anybody can share that that would be most helpful. And if anyone had experience in these things, please share your experience.
See attached files. The PNG files is from my actual car, the next images are screengrabs from autohex.net. I know this is not for the Soul model but it's unlikely KIA would change this system drastically from model to model. Also in this website autohex.net, and the video is not available anymore, which would have been at least helpful in some way for me.
Thanks, hopefully I get some more information from experts here in this forum.
