Hi everyone,

It's been 3 month since we've been trying to fix a tapping sound on my husband's 2018 Soul EV. Here is the back story, his vehicle started making a tapping sound 6 month ago that got louder over time, so he took it to a dealer in Texas. The good news was that it was still under warranty, but the bad news was that the part to fix wasn’t available and they had to order it from China, and there was no telling how long it would take.

Now, it’s been 3 months, and he’s still without the car. After several calls and emails to Kia Customer Care, they gave him a due date of September 7th, but that came and went with no part. At one point, they offered to reimburse him for rental cars and even asked for his sales contract to compensate for the trouble, which he sent in, but since there's been no word from them! We’ve read that others have had success escalating their case. How does he do that? Should we look into the lemon law? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

it took me seven months and I think i escalated it by bringing up the subject of the lemon laws in my state. That seemed to accelerate communication. Ultimately I had satisfactory results.

I had that tapping sound on my 2016 Soul EV a few years ago. It got louder over time & sped up/slowed down with acceleration. I took it in several times & eventually it was determined to need a whole new transmission, Thankfully I had bought the extended warranty & it was covered! It was in the shop about 6 months waiting for parts to arrive from Korea, which was probably worsened because it was during the peak of the COVID pandemic. And thankfully they provided me with a rental because there were no Uber or Lyft options during the shutdown.
