At the moment I'm just considering a Soul EV (~2 hour test drive tomorrow).
Does anyone measure and record the amount of Kwh used to recharge the battery overnight?
How?
It seems to me this is the essential basic information to obtain a 'fuel cost per mile' figure, and thus an 'mpg equivalent' number.

Thanks.
(Here's hoping I haven't missed any relevant posts in my forum browsing!!)

I think you can assume charging is pretty efficient (maybe 90% ?) and carefully driven* the Soul will get 4 miles/kWh from the battery.

So you'll get maybe 3.6 miles for each kWh of billed electricity.
My night rate electricity is under 8p per kWh, so I tend to say 2p per mile.

*the slower the better - 5mpk is possible in slow country ambles, maybe 3.9mpk at a steady 60mph.

I am planning on putting a kWh meter on my charger in the near future ... I'm curious too about the power usage, and I'd actually like to be able to properly track how much I use for the EV vs other uses in my home. I considered the Raspberry Pi power monitor ... it looked very nice, and allowed for all kinds of interesting data gathering ... but it is more than I need right now ... maybe some day!

Thanks for your responses. I used the figure of 3.6 miles per Kwh to calculate my fuel cost comparison at 11p per Kwh. (I tend not to do many 'slow country ambles', and even if I did contain my natural inclinations, the countryside in the Peak District gives many uphill sections).

Taking other considerations and preferences into account it became clear I would have been spending a lot of money just to pander to a whim, so I've signed up for a much smaller petrol vehicle.

Perhaps I'll look again in 2 to 3 years.

Best Wishes.
