2016 key fob programming issues

purchased a used 2016 model but it only came with 1 key fob. found a kia soul key fob on ebay used and the local dealer was unable to get it programmed, they thought it had water damage so i purchased a second one on ebay and they were still unable to program it. these were both fobs that were not specifically for the EV model, any chance this matters?

That your local dealer didn't know that different keys are required for different Model Years is worrying.

It is probably country specific. I have a 2015 Soul EV but my key looks like the second one.

Worth mentioning that if you bought one of the Montreal taxi's that went up for auction last year - your 2nd key is in the gear shifter assembly.

One of the other threads mentions it and even has pictures showing you how to get to it. Hope this helps.
