I think what you might be hearing is the fan that helps cool the battery pack. It turns on or off as needed, according to battery temperature.

I thought about that but I only seem to hear the sound using the level one charger at home, when I used to level 2 charger at work doesn't seem to make the sound.

There is a coolant loop, pump, and small radiator to keep the charging electronics at the proper temperature when any charging is taking place.

What I suspect is that this same sound is present at work, it's just muffled out by ambient noise or not reflected off of walls like it would be in your garage. The system is quiet, but when in a confined space with reflective walls in close proximity it's amplified. There's also a fan that kicks on for the radiator on very hot days, which can be noisy.
