I recently had a safety recall on my 2016 Kia Soul EV, and now it’s stuck in turtle mode. It was running fine before the recall (no charging issues, no overheating, nothing!), and I’ve even replaced the battery twice already. I really can’t be without my wheels for much longer!

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any ideas on what’s going on? I’m super frustrated and could really use some help! Thanks.

Take it back to the dealer. After the recall, turtle mode is evidence of a safety issue in the traction battery. KIA should replace the traction battery foc, but it may take a little while - you should ask for a loan car. There are several threads on this topic here.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll totally hit up the dealer. Didn’t even think about asking for a loaner car, hopefully they’ll have something available.

My 2016 set the HV warning light and "Check EV System" message last week. Dealer claimed to not have a loaner and wouldn't set up an Enterprise rental until instructed to do so by Corporate, so I went ahead and grabbed the rental. The SOUL was 'fixed' quickly with a software update, despite the car having no open recalls (all performed at this dealer, KIA of Puyallup) or other service tickets. The DTC they recorded was PIAD3, which had not been seen by my scantool. I can't help but be suspicious that the 'abnormally high cell voltage' measurement has been tweaked for a 'not quite abnormally high' setpoint....... Meanwhile, I'm claiming the rental with Corporate.

I went through something similar with my cousin’s 2016 Kia Soul EV after a recall. It wasn’t turtle mode, but we had issues with the car feeling off right after the update. We ended up having to take it back to the dealership, and it turned out that the recall update didn’t load properly, causing a glitch in the system. They had to reflash the software, and it was back to normal.
